Camping

Hello and welcome, lovely Camping Butterflies! How great that you're staying with us! We have important news for you: because the festival is small in scale, there's plenty of room to set up your temporary home. We've prepared the following camping areas for you:

The Great Butterfly Meadow

According to legend, where this campsite now lies there was once a Sacred Healing Garden. Shamans and dancing butterflies lived here with their breathwork sessions, music, dance and all their loving actions. They charged this piece of Earth with Love and good vibes. We tested it: you sleep wonderfully here. It's cosy and warm, but also spacious, free and green, and nicely central so everything is close by. In short: you'll sleep like a rose. There is plenty of luxury sanitary facilities, and if you bring an extension lead you can charge your phone at night or run a small cool box.

The Butterfly Woods

Shortly after the woods reached their current state, the ground was still raw and restless. The drought made it rather dusty. After nature had a year to settle the soil, the Butterflies came to this little forest and saw that it had become a fine place to live. Quiet, spacious and without too many butterflies on top of each other, it's a lovely spot to rest among the trees after all that dancing. Sanitary facilities are close enough here too, so your beautiful butterfly bodies can travel lighter through life without a long walk. Power? Yes.

The Butterfly Lane

Along (Lower, Middle and Upper) Butterfly Lane you can watch the sun set over the beautiful Drenthe countryside from the other side of the ditch in the evening. In the morning the light glows and you might spot The White Women, who keep watch over us at night and dance across the land until the early hours. The strip sits a little outside the shelter of the vegetation, so at the end of summer it can be cooler at night and in the morning than you might expect — but with a good sleeping bag and a warm vest, waking up in the middle of beautiful Drenthe is an experience worth having. Sanitary facilities? Yes. Tip: don't pitch all the way at 'the other end' of the path 😉 Power? Yes, but less.

Food

Food is prepared and served as always by the culinary masters of 'Het Eten': Sytse, Diedeke, Fred and all the other colleagues in the kitchen. As always, volunteers are welcome to help out in the kitchen; together we make a wonderfully beautiful party of it. On the rare moments when Sytse and crew can take a short break from their tireless efforts to feed guests, DJs & DJanes, security and volunteers, they are always up for a chat and a joke — but when you see the website of 'Het Eten', one thing quickly becomes clear: talk won't fill stomachs. First the food must be on the table, then the rest. The affable chef and crew of 'Het Eten' put down delicious dishes at every event again, with quality and sustainability as priorities. By now the delightful morning, afternoon, evening and in-between bite from 'Het Eten' is a household name in Elpine, Elp. A standard. A high standard.

We offer 'breakfast vouchers' to our guests via our website. Buy as many breakfast vouchers in advance for your festival days as you can; the more we can plan ahead, the better we can plan and the better we can provide everyone with a delicious breakfast buffet and all kinds of culinary delights! And yes, buying breakfast vouchers in advance gives you a discount.

You can pre-order breakfast vouchers via our ticket shop; at the counter you pay a little more. All other treats can also be ordered at the counter of the 'Het Eten' kitchen.

Frequently asked questions

Behaviour

Everyone follows the Vlinders! house rules. If someone deliberately crosses boundaries or harasses others, we may ask them to leave the site. In case of repeated or serious misconduct, access to our future events may be refused. Let's make it a beautiful and respectful weekend together!

Behaviour such as violence, vandalism, intimidation or theft is not welcome at Vlinders! Unwanted touching, urinating in public, nudity, throwing mud or inappropriate behaviour towards others is also not allowed. Vlinders! is a safe place for everyone – keep it friendly and look out for each other. Report suspicious activity to crew or security.

We provide sufficient waste points and hand out bin bags. Return your full bags daily to keep the site clean. Take your tent or caravan home with you when you leave. MOT-approved campers from model year 2020 onwards may be left on site, provided registration documents parts 1 and 2 and the valid 9-digit code are in the dashboard compartment. That way we leave the site beautiful together. Cigarette butts do not belong in the grass either – they pollute nature. Buckets are placed around the site where you can dispose of your butts. We are guests here.

Own food & drinks

You may bring some food and drinks to the campsite. Think of:

• A maximum of 2 litres of soft drinks per person (e.g. water, juice, fizzy drinks)

• Bread, spreads, fruit, snacks, biscuits, cereal bars

• A small cool box is allowed (on mains power if needed)

Alcohol and/or large quantities of food are not permitted. Fortunately, at 'Het Eten' there is a wide range of meals, snacks and a fresh breakfast (which you can order in advance via the ticket shop).

Ticket shop
Furniture and appliances

Leave your sofa, fridge or pallets at home. Hotplates, heaters, microwaves or freezers are also not allowed, partly due to environmental regulations. A folding chair or camping table is of course fine. Take those home with you when you leave.

Glass

Glass is not permitted on the campsite. This is to prevent injuries and because cows graze here later. Pour your drinks into plastic or use reusable cups. All glass will be confiscated. This keeps it safe and friendly for everyone – including the animals.

Tools

Visitors are not permitted to bring spades, shovels, ground augers, large tools or power tools. They can be dangerous and damage the terrain. Your rubber mallet for tent pegs is welcome.

Sound systems

Large sound systems are not permitted. A small speaker is allowed, and security and/or the organisation determines the maximum volume, not you! Between 01:00 and 09:00 we keep it quiet – that is the time to rest and recharge for the next festival day.

Animals

We love animals, but the festival site is not a nice place for them. That is why we leave (domestic) pets at home – for their own peace and safety.

Drugs

We want everyone to feel comfortable and safe. Drugs are not permitted at the Vlinders! Dance Festival. Use, possession or trafficking of drugs on or around the site is not tolerated. Follow the instructions of security. They are not there to disadvantage you, but to help keep our party (including yours) fun and safe. In case of serious violation we may hand you over to the police.

Security

Security (our beloved Team Sfeerbeheer!) checks people, bags and possibly vehicles for 'prohibited items.' Personal checks are carried out by security via a so-called POV (private-law superficial security search). Visitors are not obliged to undergo this, but the policy is that persons who refuse the POV are not admitted to the site. Security decides who and what may be on the site; do not argue, but follow their instructions. In case of refusal or possible denial of access by security and/or the organisation, ticket refunds are not possible.

Emergencies

Hopefully it will not be necessary, but in an emergency always follow the instructions of Security, the Organisation or First Aid immediately. Locate important places on the map: fire extinguishers, escape routes and the emergency response assembly point.

Consequences

If in the opinion of the organiser certain items could pose a danger to health, safety and/or public order, the organiser may refuse these items. In addition, the organiser is permitted to take additional measures in specific cases if necessary and to call upon the police for assistance.

Take everything home

Take everything you brought with you back home. The costs we incur for removal will be charged to you.

Liability

The organisation of the Vlinders! Dance Festival is not liable for damage to, theft or loss of property belonging to visitors, exhibitors and other parties involved. Participation in the festival and its activities is at your own risk. The organisation is not liable for personal injury, unless this is the result of gross negligence or intent on the part of the organisation. The organisation reserves the right to change the programme, times and/or location of the festival.

Parking

Park at the official festival parking areas. Overnight stays in the car park are not permitted – it is really meant for vehicles only. Security and police monitor this. Buy your parking ticket in advance via the ticket shop.

Ticket shop
Payments

At the festival you can pay with tokens, which are available on the festival site by card payment – no cash. Remaining tokens can be refunded to your account via a return card terminal (during the festival, not afterwards), or you can donate your tokens to the Aftervlinder volunteer barbecue via the token safe at the exit.

Lockers

There are lockers on the site. Tickets for these can be found in the ticket shop. Do not leave valuables unattended; the organisation is not liable for loss, damage or theft of your belongings.

Stages

We ensure that in case of rain or extreme sun, every visitor has a sheltered spot on the festival site. The outdoor stages are covered with stretch tents, we have an indoor stage and chill areas have been set up.

Where is the campsite?

The festival campsite is part of the festival site (Westerbroeken 1 in Elp). Buy your tickets in our ticket shop. There is no rental; the festival campsite is only for your own tent or camper.

Ticket shop
What kind of tent can I bring?

Frame tents and party tents are NOT permitted. For each person staying overnight on the campsite, buy a ticket in the shop. Your car may not be on the campsite; park it in the festival car park. The maximum tent size is 3 by 3 metres, for two people or more.

Ticket shop
Can I bring a camper or caravan to the campsite?

A limited number of camper pitches are available on the campsite. However, these are already sold out.

Is there electricity for tents, caravans and campers?

We provide power points on the camping areas. Don't forget to bring long extension leads and/or power strips that are also moisture-resistant.

Open fire

Due to fire brigade regulations, for everyone's safety open fire, loose gas cylinders and generators are not permitted on the campsite. Think of fire baskets, barbecues, beer taps and torches – it sounds atmospheric, but it brings risks. We want to keep it safe for everyone.

Are there sanitary facilities on the campsite?

Sanitary facilities are available on the festival campsite.

Festival campsite opening hours

On Friday you can check in for the festival campsite from 19:00. On Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 21:00. Check out on Monday 31 August before 12:00.

Is there a shuttle service?

We are working on a 'luggage shuttle' service. You place your luggage on the cart/trailer, walk carefree to the car park, where you can load your luggage from the cart/trailer straight into your own car.

Volunteers

No festival or event can get by without the help of fantastic volunteers — and Vlinders! is no exception. We really need your help!
